Traicho Traykov on Darik about the Monument of the Soviet Army: As the dynamite is set, the rest will happen fast
"It's not a fight, it's an imitation of a fight." With these words, the district mayor of Sredets Traicho Traykov commented on the request for dismantling the Soviet Army Monument in Sofia.
"If you want to win a battle, it's too much time for it not to happen. Never has the situation been so predisposing. The decision of the Sofia City Council is quite fresh, in line with the normative situation," he added, referring to the decision of the Sofia City Council to remove and relocate the monument.
"I walked through the Knyazhe Garden a little while ago - to take a last look at the places where next week we start the construction of a playground and a sports ground.
And I'm thinking - so and so will be appointed new district governors, I would offer my services for Sofia. I have the qualifications, the agenda and the determination," Traykov wrote last week on his Facebook account.
A day later, he clarified, "My little comment yesterday caused a lot of reactions, which is good, so I will continue my thought.
I had and have no aspirations to the post of governor. I just see how for thirty years there has been an absence of desire, courage or anything else to implement the decision of the SOS on the so-called Soviet Army Monument and clearly more intervention is needed. Moreover, the decision has recently been reconfirmed and by the very political forces that support the current regular government."
He said, "If it turns out that there is no one to step in, I would stand by my words.
