Dan Reynolds from Imagine Dragons in Sofia: Life is worth it and therapy is the reason I'm here
The 36-year-old musician addressed the audience with a special message
Tens of thousands of Imagine Dragons fans were able to see and sing along with their favorite band in Sofia on July 30, and one of the most notable moments during the concert was frontman Dan Reynolds' speech on mental health, Boulevard Bulgaria reports.
The 36-year-old musician addressed the crowd shortly before performing "Demons," "a song about anyone who has had trouble feeling happy, finding a reason to keep living."
"Stay with us. Let's seek help together. I'm a firm believer in therapy. Therapy is the reason I'm still here today. Therapy doesn't make you wrong or weak. Asking for help does not make you wrong. It makes you wise, strong. Planning for the future, staying alive for the people who love you, staying alive for yourself, because loving yourself is enough," he was quoted as saying by the publication.
Reynolds ends his message by saying, "Your life is always worth living. Never take it away. Stay with us. We need you."
This is just one instance in which the Imagine Dragons singer has used his music to address the importance of mental health care.
The creation of Imagine Dragons gave him a new purpose and a way to express feelings he couldn't find any other way to explain outside of his songs. The band became popular around the world, and the pressure was back on Dan Reynolds. He says he decided to seek help after an accident that made him realize his problem. During a flight with severe turbulence, the musician realizes he no longer feels the desire to continue living.
Reynolds says he was the first person in his family to seek out a psychotherapist.
Years later, he still believes that decision changed his life - and Imagine Dragons' music is also part of his personal battle to remove the stigma associated with depression and therapy.
Some of the band's biggest hits are dedicated to the difficulty one has in fighting when they lose faith in themselves and don't want to let their loved ones in on their pain.
